What is a Prosthodontist?????

Most people are familiar with the word Orthodontist. That is a dentist specially trained to move teeth. Similarly, a Prosthodontist is a dentist specially trained to repair or replace missing teeth and other structures surrounding the oral cavity. This entails an additional 3 years of speciallization training full time at an institution accreditted by the American Dental Association. Although all dentists are trained to do crowns, bridges and dentures, Prosthodontists are trained to accomplish the more complex treatments needed by those experiencing more severe problems that can occur due to medical problems, severe wear, long term neglect, improper treatment and aging. They are also trained to provide treatment for implants and TMJ disorders that are not typically taught to general practitioners in dental school.

Prosthodontics is one of the accreditted specialities by the American Dental Association. The parent organization of our specialty is the American College of Prosthodontists
